My wife and I stayed at the Keio Plaza on our honeymoon in Tokyo. This story has provided me with a wonderful anecdote for later. What a bizarre article that encapsulates Inoki's eye for the spectacle.
It certainly is, it really made me smile - if I had known at the time it no doubt there would have been a suggestion that was why the hotel was picked. The honeymoon did include a fair few sightseeing opportunities of notable pro wrestling and MMA venues as it was :)
Yeah, Oliver the Humanzee is on my “to do” pile, since my dad (also Oliver) called people humanzees (a term I also use in the Substack at times). I finally wrote up the Oliver Bateman murders so I might tackle this soon.
I have portions of his book translated if you do decide to write this stuff up. You could at least grab the Japanese perspective. Tons of American media wrote about it obvi.

Fancy!
Isn't it cool when some little detail comnects a story with your actual life?

Here for it.
This was a highly enjoyable read. Thank you!
Thanks for reading
Oliver the Humanzee!
Oliver did the rounds in America too. Someone could do a story just on that shit show.
The Loch Ness is also amazing. He even got the NY Times to do a big feature!

yeah, that would be incredible to have, something I have none of
Utter madness. Great stuff.
This was wild! Thanks for this. It's always cool to hear tales of outlandish, bigger than life characters.
Thanks for reading.
I was going through Inoki's autobiography for my PRIDE book and this story really grabbed my attention.
