Match of the Day: Terry Funk vs. Bruiser Brody (AJPW, 12/7/1982)
From the Wrestling Playlists Newsletter
Once Terry Funk’s ear was bleeding, his match with the unstoppable Bruiser Brody became less an athletic contest and more a battle of survival. This contest totally stole the show from a Harley Race vs. Ricky Steamboat world title match and was one of the most interesting bouts of 1982.
In recent years, some smart fans online have attempted to rewrite the book on Brody, long considered one of the great brawlers and iconoclasts in the sport. They’ve missed the mark in my opinion. Looking back, he’s as vibrant as ever, practically popping off the screen and almost 15 years ahead of his time.
A legend of the game—and for good reason.
Terry, of course, is Terry. He’s going to sell in unique ways and provide a few chuckles. But, when it’s time to fire up and get serious, no one has ever done “come from behind, sympathetic babyface” better.
